“I have never been very nervous about online piracy,” the Daily Star quotes him as saying.
And he’s got it right.
This model probably doesn’t work for everyone, but it’s the future. Giving your music away and charging for everything else is what the new music business is all about.
You know I’m all for free music. Doing it any other way (especially the old way) just doesn’t make sense anymore. I think of singles and mixes as a promotional tool; use them to win new fans. Most money is made from touring nowadays. And even that coinpurse isn’t as big as it once was. But that’s the music biz for you.
Fame vs fortune. Why are you in it? For the music? Or the money?
And it’s not just about music anymore. It’s about connecting with fans. Free music, vids, contests, etc. It’s all about accessability! How can you reach new fans? What can you do for your fans? And how can your fans help you?
