Wait, wait. The “M” doesn’t even stand for “music” anymore, does it?
I’m not going to tear the artists apart because they’re on this list. After all, they’ve worked hard for their status and deserve the kudos. I’d love to be acknowledged by a major publication — even if they (MTV) lost all credibility years ago. And yes, although these artists may be considered “mainstream” by anyone that’s experienced the true underground scene, these guys do indeed have some great music (sometimes). And more than that, they’ve opened up a new generation of clubbers to our (not so little anymore) world of EDM.
No, I guess I’m just a little skeptical about the choices because they’re the most obvious. This is like picking your monthly Top 10 chart from the Beatport charts. EDM isn’t about being “underground” anymore, it’s about being a rockstar and selling records. It may still be about the music, but it’s more about the money now than ever before.
Congrats to the artists just the same!
