This week’s vinyl from the vaults is Olmec Heads’ “Promises (Out There)” and “Lift Off” (John ’00′ Flemming RMX) on the Colourbox label. I believe I picked this one up sometime in 2000 — right at the height of the progressive/trance era. You know that time when Oakenfold’s Tranceport was introducing the American kids to electronic dance music? I’ll admit I didn’t do too many sets of this this type of stuff because at the time I was more focused on bangin’ Chicago house and funky Florida breaks.
Still, it doesn’t take away from the HUGE progressive sound, the synths, and the keys of “Promises”. The flipside “Lift Off” is just as big, with a driving outer-space acid-tech prog vibe and a blinding build. Both of these took everything good from the period and made winners. Is this one even on Beatport?
