Just in time for the release of their “Can’t Hurt You” remixes, Layo & Bushwacka! announce they are splitting up. What?
But what can you do? All good things come to an end. The split aside, L&B’s deep tech house LP “Rising & Falling” has been burning holes in speakers this fall and now the remixes of “Can’t Hurt You” are breathing new life into the single.
The new mixes each have their own subtle vision of where to take the song, and while each is strong enough to stand on its own, I don’t think any of them particularly stand out.
Guti’s remix is probably my favorite of the trio, bringing in a nice tropical groove and some well-placed keys for flavor.
The Russ Yallop remix makes better use of Kim Ann Foxman’s sexy voice and the catchy bassline and distinct kick set this quirky cut apart.
Finally, the Just Be (aka Bushwacka!) remix layers up more drums and percussion than the others, strips down the vocals, and weaves in some haunting synths for dimension.
Decent house music, but nothing mindblowing. I’ll give this one a 7/10.
