Just had a chance to listen to the new “Desolat 025” sampler (out in early February) celebrating the five year anniversary of the label. I’m not a huge techno fan, but this brings together some of their top artists and offers up some unique sounds.

Loco Dice’s “Lolopopinho” is by far my favorite off this release, and has a techy hypnotic riff that builds and layers itself up from the start and punches all the right buttons for a dancefloor monster. The only other cut I really enjoyed was Yaya’s “Our Connection”; it gets a bit deeper with a lush, organic vibe under the dirty synth attacks and dark voices. Each of the other six tracks shows off the many faces of techno and tech-house, but ultimately stays true to the repetitive drums and beat driven format without much in terms of melody. If that’s your niche you’ll want to check this out.
